APSE joins you in celebrating Black History Month!

As National APSE continues to strengthen our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), we will work to celebrate black history and culture and its impact on Employment First and the disability community throughout the year.

Every month APSE will provide new EDI learning content (webinars, podcasts, and resources) to continue learning, sharing, and growing. The work of making a more diverse, accepting world doesn’t end in February.

APSE offers Events & Learning to focus on #EmploymentFirst topics. If you have an idea for new learning content, we have launched a Professional Development opportunities form, which will be available all the time at APSE Apply (www.apse.smapply.org).

Microaggressions and Bias: How to Counteract These Incidents in the Work Context
Presenter: Carlos Olivo
Assistant Teaching Professor at Colorado State University

A microaggression is like a mosquito bite, it minimally hurts if it happens occasionally. But when it is happening every day, it becomes a serious issue. Most of the time microaggressions are driven by biases, which could be unconscious or consciously engraved in the individual. Many employees are experiencing microaggressions and the emotional tax associated with them. In this webinar, Dr. Olivo will discuss the characteristics of microaggressions in the context of professional workspaces, how to identify them, and how to navigate these incidents.

This webinar will mention what Will Fried has done with an offensive mentality to gain employment opportunities in his dream job of becoming a basketball official and a Graduate Assistant in Accessibility Services at the college level. He will share his pillars and strategies with you, which helped him strive for greatness.
